Jeffrey L.
“One of the best things about the MBA online program from KU is it allowed me, in my current duties in the U.S. Army, to fit it into my daily routine. At the time that I applied, I was transferring from Hawaii and moving my family to Missouri. I then moved to Saudi Arabia, and the program followed me through there. I finally ended up in Florida, where I finished my coursework, working at MacDill Air Force Base, and the program enabled me to keep that sequence going through the entire time.”

This robust support network demonstrates our commitment to not just your education, but to your complete transition and success in the business world.

Financial support and resources

While the KU online MBA program's flat-rate tuition already falls under the Post-9/11 GI Bill VA cap, KU's participation in the Yellow Ribbon Program showcases our broader commitment to military education support. There are also additional options for tuition reduction through scholarships, grants, and other sources that may depend on your demographics, branch of the military, field of study, and more.

Yellow Ribbon Program

Part of the Post-9/11 Veterans Educational Assistance Act of 2008, the Yellow Ribbon Program represents a partnership between KU and the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) to make your education more affordable. Under this program, eligible students may receive additional funding beyond their standard GI Bill benefits.

Eligibility includes:
  • Veterans who served at least 36 months of active duty after September 10, 2001
  • Purple Heart recipients with an honorable discharge
  • Service members honorably discharged for a service-connected disability after 30 continuous days of service post-September 10, 2001
  • Dependents eligible for Transfer of Entitlement under the Post-9/11 GI Bill at 100% level
  • Fry Scholarship recipients attending terms after August 1, 2018
Through this partnership, KU and the VA work together to ensure that qualified veterans and their dependents have access to exceptional educational opportunities with minimal financial burden. Contact KU’s Military-Affiliated Student Center to learn more about how these benefits can support your educational journey.

The Post-9/11 GI Bill

As the most frequently used Veteran’s Affairs (VA) education benefit, the GI Bill provides up to 36 months of benefits to help pay for school or job training for veterans, service members, survivors, and dependents. Post-9/11 GI Bill benefits may include financial support for school tuition, fees, books, supplies, and housing. You may also receive reimbursement for licensure, or certification tests, national exams, or assistance for apprenticeships or on-the-job-training.

Eligibility
  • Based on length of active service, you are entitled to a percentage of each type of benefit, up to 100% of the maximum benefit. You may be eligible if you:
  • Served at least 90 aggregate days of qualifying active service on or after September 11, 2001
  • Received a Purple Heart on or after September 11, 2001 and were honorably discharged after any amount of service
  • Served for at least 30 continuous days on or after September 11, 2001, and were honorably discharged with a service-connected disability
  • Are a spouse or dependent child using benefits transferred by a qualifying veteran or service member

Your benefits expiration dates depend on when you were discharged from active duty. If your service ended before January 1, 2013, your Post 9/11 GI Bill benefits will expire 15 years after your last separation date from active service. You can learn more at VA.gov.
