Biography
Kelly Crane began her career working in marketing in the music industry in Austin, Texas, and has since worked in director-level and vice president-level marketing roles with companies in a multitude of industries including entertainment, healthcare, telecommunications and advertising. She has more than 30 years of experience in advertising agencies, corporate environments, and the public sector.
She is the former director of the KU School of Journalism’s Integrated Marketing Communications graduate program where she taught relationship marketing and the program’s capstone course to working adult graduate students. As someone who went back to graduate school late in life, Crane's passion is working with others who are juggling career, family and the goal of earning a master's degree.
Crane is the Area Industry Mentor for Marketing students at the business school. In this role, she helps students prepare for careers in marketing by coaching them on networking, resumes, and LinkedIn profiles, as well as advising them on the courses, certifications, and extracurricular activities needed to secure the jobs they desire.
Crane has used her marketing skills and experience to produce mainstage events for a regional conference for foster and adoptive parents. She also volunteers for the Barnabas Group, where she coaches leaders of nonprofits on communications and presentation skills. In that role she has also co-created a pro-bono workshop on brand storytelling and social media strategy for non-profits.
